Wildlife Commission Announces New Fisheries Chief

[font "Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"][size 2]RALEIGH, N.C. – Bob Curry of Raleigh has been named chief of the Division of Inland Fisheries for the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission. [/size][/font]

[font "Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"][size 2]Curry, 49, will be responsible for all statewide programs in habitat and fish management, biological research, regulations development, fish production and stocking, special programs, federal aid and budgets, and aquatic habitat conservation.[/size][/font]

[font "Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"][size 2]Prior to his promotion, Curry served 10 years as fisheries program manager where he developed and administered the division’s budget, oversaw the state’s six fish hatcheries and managed outreach, research and survey, and development programs statewide.[/size][/font]

[font "Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"][size 2]Curry began his career with the Wildlife Commission in 1984 as an assistant fisheries biologist, conducting research and management projects in Piedmont lakes and reservoirs. In 1987, he advanced to development coordinator, providing direction for the striped bass production programs at the Weldon and Fayetteville state fish hatcheries.[/size][/font]

[font "Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"][size 2]Curry spent most of his life in Augusta, GA., where he earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Augusta College. He graduated with a master’s degree in fisheries and wildlife science from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. [/size][/font]

[font "Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"][size 2]Curry has been active in the American Fisheries Society (AFS) since 1979, serving in a variety of positions, most notably as president of the North Carolina chapter in 2001-2002 and chairman of the education committee from 1995 until 1998. Currently, he is vice president of the southern division of AFS.[/size][/font]

Wildlife Resources Commission has been dedicated to the wise-use, conservation and management of the state’s fish and wildlife resources. Nineteen wildlife commissioners create and maintain laws and regulations governing hunting, fishing and boating activities based on input from the public and the Commission’s wildlife and fisheries biologists, wildlife enforcement officers, educators, engineers and administrative staff.[/size][/font]
