Mississippi Pulls Plug On State Fishing Lake
#1
JACKSON, MS —Lake Charlie Capps, a 512-acre state fishing lake off Mississippi Hwy. 8 in Bolivar County, is scheduled to be drained in spring 2006, according to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks (MDWFP).

The MDWFP intends to remove all size, creel and gear limits on the harvest of all types of fish in the lake starting in late January.

"This is to encourage the public to remove as many fish as possible before the lake is totally drained and closed to public use," says biologist Dennis Riecke.

The state plans to raise sections of the lake levee to prevent floodwater from entering the lake. According to Riecke, the MDWFP plans to restock the lake after renovations are complete.

If you'd like to submit your comments on the plan, mail them by Dec. 21 to: Executive Director, Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, 1505 Eastover Dr., Jackson, MS 39211-6374.

For more information, call the MDWFP Fisheries Division at: (601) 432-2200.
