COLUMBUS, OH - A group of employees from Barkcamp State Park in Belmont County received Ohio State Parks' 2007 "Cutting Edge Award" on Tuesday for establishing a cost-effective sign shop to serve the needs of the system's 73 other facilities. The award is presented annually to employees that best exemplify the spirit of innovation and ingenuity within the system.
Mike Stewart accepted the award on behalf of an employee team that produces professional-quality signs, using two-color plastic plywood made primarily from recycled milk jugs. The 40-plus signs produced this year were made of high-density, weather permeable material that will withstand the test of time and maintain their clean, professional appearance for years to come with no additional care.
"The signs produced at Barkcamp cost an estimated 20 to 50 percent less than similar signs produced by private companies," said Dan West, chief of Ohio State Parks. "This effort saved the state literally thousands of dollars."
Ohio's state park system includes nine resort lodges, more than 500 cottages and 56 family campgrounds with more than 9,000 campsites. For additional information visit ohiodnr.com.
