You can use many things but tubes seem to work best for me and the guys on tv.[Wink]

My biggest bass ever was caught fishing a drop shot rig on a bed with a plastic worm.

In Northeast PA, the best thing I've found is zipping a white/silver spinnerbait through shallow areas near shore. I've never looked at a bed, so I can't help you there. Pre-spawn also marks the beginning of Senko season. Dropping 5" and 6" Senkos in the shallows works well, too. Pre-spawn, you are looking for a reaction strike. Aggravate the fish and get them to whack your lure out of protection of the spawning area. They're there protecting a while before they lay eggs. Jerkbaits and shallow running cranks will work well also, the shinier, louder and more vibrations, the better.

As you can see, it's not the lure so much as making the bass mad at it. Some fellas use a white tube or bait so when the fish hits they can see it disappear. You may have to throw it into the bed quite a few times to get a hit.
