Father, Son Drown in Accident on Tuckertown Reservoir
DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. - Davidson County Sheriff David Grice says a father and his son drowned on Tuckertown Reservoir Saturday evening.

Sheriff Grice says a man and his two sons were on a boat near the High Rock Dam, which separates the reservoir from High Rock Lake, around 5:15 p.m. Saturday. A 14-year-old boy dropped his fishing rod and reel in the water and fell in while trying to retrieve it. His father, 39, jumped in to try to save him, but they both drowned. Officials say neither victim was wearing a life jacket, nor were there any on the boat. The father's 10-year-old son was also on the boat, but he was not hurt.

Two wildlife officials saw the accident happen and called 911 for help, but crews were not able to save them. The bodies of the victims were recovered within an hour and a half.

"It's a clear case of a boat not being properly prepared with safety equipment, no life-jackets on board. Once the victims fell into the water, in swift moving water, they had little chance of returning to the boat because the current pulled them downstream." said Sgt. Anthony Sharum, with the NC Wildlife Resource Commission.

Sheriff Grice says the father and son were not from Davidson County, but he could not release their names or where they were from. Rescuers were able to reunite the 10-year-old boy with his mother.
