This run forecast seminar will be conducted at Fisherman's Marine and Outdoor at the Delta Park Store on January 13th SO MARK YOUR CALENDARS NOW ! ! ! ! ! ! The seminar at the Oregon City location has been cancelled so the only presentation on this years run forecast is at the Delta Park store despite what you read in the Oregonian.
Columbia River sturgeon fishing is off to a good start. Much of the effort is taking place downriver in anticipation of concentrated sturgeon preparing for the onslaught of smelt. There is however, room for improvement.
Cold weather has many steelhead favorites on hold this week. Although several streams in NW Oregon produced fair results before the winter storm, the upcoming week will be not only challenging to target steelhead but often times dangerous.
The Sandy is showing signs of improvement but the Clackamas slowed down after the holiday. Some steelhead were reported at Meldrum Bar coming from the plunkers.
The Wilson was producing results using low water tactics (bobber and jig) and Three Rivers was virtually empty at the beginning of the week and some fish were taken.
The smaller tributaries like the Necanicum and North Fork Nehalem will be decent options when the rivers come back down after the snow melt.
The Siletz is off to a decent start and if the late run steelhead follow suit with wild coho, it could be a great year on the Siletz.
While no trout stocking is scheduled for this week and the 2004 schedule is not yet posted, various coastal and Willamette Valley locations will receive excess hatchery steelhead periodically.

Fish and Wildlife Commission to give direction Friday on2004 Columbia River spring chinook seasons
Briefing on oversize sturgeon regulations also on agenda
SALEM - The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission will meet Friday, Jan. 9, to give policy direction on the 2004-2005 Columbia River spring chinook fisheries and to hear an informational briefing on the status of the oversize sturgeon fishery in the Columbia River gorge.
The Commission also will meet in executive session during the day-long meeting pursuant to ORS 192.660(1)(g) to confer with legal counsel concerning confidential attorney-client advice.
The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission is the policy making body for fish and wildlife issues in the state. The seven-member panel meets monthly. The meeting will occur in the first floor Commission Room at the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife headquarters building, 3406 Cherry Avenue N.E., Salem.
The meeting will begin at 8 a.m. and proceed through the agenda in order. The following items are on the agenda:
· Director's report on regional ODFW activities and temporary rules approved in December;
· Revenue and expenditure report;
· Informational briefing on Access and Habitat program monitoring;
· Rulemaking to establish the average market value of food fish for determining damages for commercial fish violations;
· Establish policy guidance for the 2004-05Columbia River spring chinook fisheries allocation;
· Informational briefing on Columbia River gorge oversize sturgeon sport fishery;
· Adoption of Wolf Management Plan frame work; and
· Other business where the Access and Habitat auction will be discussed.
Public testimony will be taken on each agenda item. For all agenda items, sign-up sheets to testify will be provided at the meeting.
