New reel with penn rod - IKfish - 05-18-2018 For my Birthday received a spinning reel Grim I 3000 of a new brand called Runcl I think, set up with the Penn Squadran M. As you can see, I’m on budget and only fishing on weekend. Most of my go to set-ups are at affordable price. So the question is that will a combo like that could be useful for bass fishing? And what techniques should I use? Any insight or info would be welcomed. A better question might be, if it would be an ideal setup for that type of fishing and the answer would be no. From what I have read and seen, most bass anglers use a baitcaster reel for that type of fishing. Hope that helps. I believe you have a med. weight rod so it should be a good match. Bigger reels seem to not get the distance as well, but it could be me. Put a heavy line like it and use it for pulling a frog or creature bait through grass or matts. good setup for tough areas. Plus it would be able to be used as a combo for catfish and carp, or even saltwater. This would get you the most out of your new combo [signature] Re: [IKfish] New reel with penn rod - catchinon - 06-21-2018 That looks like a very nice reel. Let us know how it works out for you. There's nothing wrong with shopping on a budget. Everybody does, even if they buy the $400 dollar Shimano instead of the $700 one. I think if you are careful and read reviews you can find good stuff at modest prices. I just set up a couple of good rod/reel/line combos for catfish for about $65 each by shopping sales, etc. Sure, to a degree you get what you pay for but a lot of times you pay too much for a big name. And I have had as much fun catching fish on cheap combos from a big-box store as I could have had with more expensive equipment. Sorry, got off on a little rant there. The price is also great compared to the other brands. ![]() [signature] |
