Mill Creek Canyon 7-29-20 - Riffle - 07-29-2020

Took a drive up Mill Creek early this morning to get in a few hours of needed fishing time. Love this little stream - a twelve incher would be a real trophy, especially up in the higher reaches. Had non-stop action on a little elks hair caddis. Looks like the cutthroat restoration project has been a success! I grew up fishing on these wasatch mountain streams - and it is still amazing fun to crawl and cast!

Nice, one thing I need to get back into, spent lots of time as a kid walking stream banks, haven't done that in a long time.

Cool pictures! Man, those are some tight quarters... I would probably lose half my flies to the canopy Big Grin

Mill Creek is one of the tighter creeks to fish. I find it more enjoyable using a fly rod in the 6 ft and 0-1 wt range. Lose less flies and still get to cast some. It's probable one of the few places around a Tenkara rod actually make sense. Now that the Tenkara fad is over, it might be worth looking at getting a lightly used rod on the cheap. Because I need my 13th rod  Big Grin to fly fish with.

I love the shot of the "looking Pool" with the Unobtaineeum sub species of Bonneville cutthroat trout.
