Bear River Cats - Jig-fisher - 05-14-2022 The fishing is never fast, and most days if you catch more than one fish it is a really good day. But sometimes it makes up for it in the quality. Quality has been good this week, with two of the days only resulting in just one fish caught. The water is still cold. Good fish, all released. 30.75", 30", 29". All caught on sucker or chub. Cat contest is underway. Go catch some monsters! These are the pictures of me holding them. RE: Bear River Cats - 2knots - 05-14-2022 Nice job Paul RE: Bear River Cats - Jig-fisher - 05-15-2022 (05-14-2022, 11:02 PM)2knots Wrote: Nice job Paul Thanks Alan. RE: Bear River Cats - Ahi1953 - 05-15-2022 Wow Paul very nice. I can't get a bite last few days. They dont like my old carp and I can't even catch any fresh bait. RE: Bear River Cats - filletedalive - 05-15-2022 Those are beautiful. Awesome catch! If you ate those, have you noticed a difference in taste/texture from a big river cat vs a cat caught from a lake? If you ate those, have you noticed a difference in taste/texture from a big river cat vs a cat caught from a lake? I can't say. I don't keep these big ones. Just measure, photos and release. If I want eater cats I go to Willard. RE: Bear River Cats - filletedalive - 05-15-2022 Those Willard cats are excellent. I was always told growing up, that the bigger channel cats have a “mushy” texture and they aren’t worth keeping. I kept a 12 lb cat from Utah lake years ago, I found the texture to be just fine but the taste was off from what I was used to eating. Side question, what type of sinker works best for keeping the bait in place on the bear? RE: Bear River Cats - Jig-fisher - 05-16-2022 I usually taylor my rig to the amount of current. Faster the current, heavier the sinker. The water levels fluctuate out there and some days of low flow I just out a couple of split shot. The majority of the time I use a bell sinker above a big swivel. About 24" of leader attached to a 6/0 circle hook. RE: Bear River Cats - SkunkedAgain - 05-16-2022 Hey Paul great photo's those are some great fish, way to go... and I'll get that last one scored as soon as I can... (hopefully later this morning)... Nice to see ya Saturday... Keep those big ones coming, the north needs the good ones like you put on the charts... I'll see if I can sneak out and get a couple better fish to bring up the low end of the top ten...
