Columbia Gorge Coho! - MMDon - 11-05-2024

Just got back from 5 days on the Columbia Gorge chasing Coho and Sturgeon. Easy limits of Coho by 7 am every morning and the C&R Sturgeon fishing would have you catching 5 or more an hour! Amazing fishery!

Wow, that looks like a great trip. What is the average size for the Coho and sturgeon there?

RE: Columbia Gorge Coho! - MMDon - 11-05-2024

Coho are 8 to 16 lbs average and the sturgeon we were after for 3 to 5 foot. Stay out of the main shipping channel to hopefully not hook a large sturgeon as we were only using salmon rods to land them! I brought back over 100 lbs of Coho.

They look like this.

That looks great, you must eat a lot of salmon. Can you keep sturgeon there too?

RE: Columbia Gorge Coho! - MMDon - 11-05-2024

Thanks! I love salmon and give away a lot as well. Sturgeon can be kept but only during retention seasons.

Interesting, have you ever tasted sturgeon, if so, how does it taste?

Sturgeon is good. Boiled in ginger ale it's known as the poor man's lobster and of course it makes great fish tacos.
