LAKE LANIER AND CHATTAHOOCHEE RIVER FISHING REPORT<br>by Bill Vanderford<br>04-30-02 <br>Surface temperatures at Lake Lanier are over 70 degrees, and the lake level is about about 6 feet below normal pool and still rising. The spawning cycle for most fish in Lake Lanier is almost over.<br><br>Striped bass can be found around points or near underwater ridges all over the lake. Most of these fish are being caught with flat-lined shiners, larger jerkbaits, or other topwater lures.<br>Despite the beginning of post-spawn, more than 30 spotted bass can be caught around points, docks, or blown down trees throughout the lake. These bass can be caught best by casting with 1/8th ounce Swirleybird spinners.<br><br>Crappie fishing should be great this month at night under bridges all over the lake. Live shad or minnows will be the best bait.<br>The migratory fish like white bass and walleyes are returning to the main lake from up in the rivers and creeks. These fish are also a possible catch at night under the bridges with live bait.<br><br>Trout fishing in the Chattahoochee River below the dam is excellent for both rainbow and browns.
