Evening doves - lunkerhunter2 - 09-05-2006

Went out at 5 pm tonight with Lil'Lunkerhunter and set up "camp". Sat for half hour with no action and then shot the first of 6 doves for the night. I missed 10 shots and had some flocks of 5+ fly by just out of range. Not too shabby considering i only shot 2 last year. Already killed 10. Back in the am. Anybody else killing any?

I don't dove hunt much anymore but I am glad you had a good shoot. I am really regretting not getting a Sage Hen Tags (They are already sold out). They are EVERYWHERE and it looks like
they are really making a comeback.

I did find a pretty good area with some blue grouse. If you want to come up here and hunt shoot me a PM or give me a call.

Luck gives it that this weekend I did not hunt for doves, and came across hundreds of them. One place there must have been 50 of them sitting on a power line!

Brody,

Yeah, drive your car up here and we can take my beater up in the hills. Its not too far from my house. Maybe I can get a little scouting in on the way.

[#ff4040]Got my limit on Saturday, but haven't been out since. Is it just me, or have you also noticed that there are alot more juvenile birds this year. I had a 50/50 split of juveniles to adults.[/#ff4040]

Yeah, it has been 50/50 for me too. The singles i killed were huge and 4 of the 6 last night were juveniles. Must of had a good crop this year,[cool]

Nice work Brody! I went out yesterday morning, but only got 2. We saw quite a few, but they were always just out of range. Oh well. It's been a fun opener for them little things.

I too have noticed a lot of little birds...that's OK, they taste a little better. My dad had a dove build a late nest and lay 3 clutches of eggs in his yard! She abandoned the last clutch, as it was the 2nd week of August that she laid them! Crazy! Those little things went from eggs, to flying around in just 5 weeks.

LH2,
Did you say you got your limit in the morning and then went back out in the evening?

OK, I see now! I thought you said you had already shot 10 back in the A.M., not that you had shot 10 and were going back in the A.M. Reading comprehension isn't my strong point!

It's ok. I am like that sometimes too. Don't know my a** from a hole in the ground sometimes. I do follow the regs and abide by them as best i can. Sometimes i forget but not very often.
