albino feed - MountainMan - 03-19-2003
Howdy y'all[
]. How would one go about catching an albino trout, especially when they can see them and cast right to them and have used flies, worms, and lures[mad], uhem, excuse me[blush]. Anyways, any one know how? (Or what to use).[signature]

I haven't caught one myself but I've seen many caught on salmon eggs and crawlers at farmington pond. I have heard that for fly fishing to use a size 16 and smaller for albinos in lakes such as mirror or other high mountain lakes. Also I have herd of albino trout and albino rainbow are they the same thing? I have seen white albinos and orange albinos Why are some white and others orange?[unsure]

we use to catch alot of them on green lid pautkeze's one egg on a gold egg hook...grey hackle peacocks work good too...good luck....take some pics when you get into them...

The only Thing I have ever gotten them to take is a lil jakes lurs. gold/silver with red dots.

I've caught several over the years in both lakes and streams. The only thing is that I only saw one before I caght it once. The rest of them were when I was fishing for "normal" strains of trout and happened to catch one by accident. The one I did see before he was caught was on a standard red salmon egg.

I actually think they are not and intelligent fish. I've caught them on the blacksmiths fork using a small rooster tail. They follow the lure right up to my feet then I just dangle it in front of their noses, and then when they go to bump it, I do a little drop and set action and I usually catch them! I've never caught one off of bait however.

I usually make a couple of trips a year up to Trial Lake with the little nieces and nephew. I put on a bobber and a worm, throw out and slowly retreve, by the time I get to shore I usually will have a school of albinos following, as soon as you see the fish following stop the retrieve and 90% the time I have a yellow fish on for the kids to reel in.

I have just the trick you're looking for picky albinos you can see. Use a really small treble hook (#16) and a tiny split shot. Make a small ball from low grade hamburger on the hook. You only get one cast because the burger will fall off. Trust me, the little albinos can't resist it. Good luck.
