UTAH LAKE - fishboy2 - 03-23-2003 Me and Road went up to utah lake today, we decided to fish are regular area which is the lindon boat harbor. We started out the day fishing in are float tubes, which started out bad. heres why, like always i was the first to get into the water[cool], my road like always was chattin upo a storm with someone, when he finnaly got done he came down and took a dive right into the lake while getting into his tube[laugh], he not only went head first he flipped his tube and dunked the fish finder so we did not get to use it for toady[]. we floated around and got a cuple hits but had not luck at all. when we got out my dad crossed the road and started to talk with this one guy and watch the big ol' carp jumpin. we fished their a little had no luck so we headed down to where we saw some guys caxthen some fish. when we got thir they were just finishing up, they had caught about twenty catfish, so instictively we took their spots and did not catch a thing until... wam road hooked up, i was next then it started to get dark. road hooked up again and then we left. we took three 1 pound cts out today, I learned an important life lesson, catfish have visegrips for mouths dont try to pick them up like a bass. I hope Road did not get hurt. Hey, I want to hear Roads side of the story, did you give dad any help? WH2 [signature] Re: [wiperhunter2] UTAH LAKE - fishboy2 - 03-23-2003 he did not get hurt and if he did it was just his ego,i did paddle over and hold his tube for him i mean i couldnt just float out there laughing at him forever considering he was driving me home. im sure he will post his side but if not you can pm him and ask him about it. it was great and i would have done anything to get it an camera but we dont have one. it was funny.[laugh] [signature] Re: [fishboy2] UTAH LAKE - Kent - 03-23-2003 Hey Fishboy2, Do you still have all of your fingers? Those catfish have vices for jaws. You now have learned to keep your fingers out of the mouths of catfish. Just in case you haven't learned already, don't even think of putting your fingers inside the mouth of a walleye or a tiger muskie! You didn't follow the instructions. You are supposed to put the fins down inside the tube first...then step into the fins. You need to reread the chapter on "Launching and Beaching". I absolutely cannot believe all of the fishing shows I have watched over the years where Bill Dunce or some other great fisherman is going to demonstrate float tubing for the first time. They climb in with fins already on...sometimes in knee deep water, they go out in underinflated craft that fold up around them and they lean back and take water down the back of their waders that are too short for float tubing. The most hilarious are the guys that wear those green "Paddle Pushers" made by Fishmaster. They are designed to go forward...on VERY SMALL PONDS. If you try to get them to propel you across anything bigger than the North Marina at Willard, you will succumb to a terminal case of "crotch cramps". Sorry, I wasn't there to "cheer you on", but very happy you suffered no real damage to yourself or your gear. As with all fun pursuits, there is always the potential for enjoyment turning quickly to disaster. I have witnessed a couple of incidents that turned out badly, and could have been avoided. As always, have fun, but pay attention to details. Be safe and return to those who care about you. Can you tow a water skier yet? Nah. Bad idea. There's too many of them as it is. Oughta be a bounty on 'em. Double on personal water craft. [signature] Re: [Guest] UTAH LAKE - wiperhunter2 - 03-24-2003 I'm glad you were OK Road, after a nose dive like that, it's lucky that you did not hit your head on the bottom. As shallow as some of the lakes are this year, I hope the water level comes up a lot more before all the snow melts. I had something like your experience happened to me some years ago. I ended up getting a few cuts and scrapes but we look back on it now and laugh. After I recovered from the shock there was the problem of drying off and with out any dry clothes there was only one way to do it. Lucky for me we were on some back roads of the North slope with few cars in the area. Things turned out OK and we have some good memories that we will never forget. WH2 [signature] Re: [wiperhunter2] UTAH LAKE - road - 03-28-2003 Thanks WH2, it wasn't all that bad but it had to be funny. I try and launch where there are few rocks to fal on (whos says old dogs don't learn new tricks) Tube I'll give that a try with the flippers. I did just go and read *your* instructions LOL. Now maybe I should have done that first! Sorry guys I just don't seem to get here as often I would like any more. I guess that's the price you pay when you are looking for work. Going to be going back to a weekend fisherman unfortuneately. Well it was fun while it lasted!!! [signature] |
