N. St.Vrain Report - BlueRapala - 07-28-2008

I had planned to go to Granby this weekend but at the last minute all heck broke loose. So I unloaded all the camping stuff, parked the boat and took care of business. Saturday evening I had a few hours so I took the flyrod up and flogged the North St.Vrain above Bottonrock res. (Ralph Price res.) .The water is still flowing good for this time of year. I had trouble crossing in a couple places but the fishing was great. I caught 15 trout in 2 1/2 hours. They ranged from 5" -15". The first hole I hit I caught a 15' Cutbow and a 14" Brown in 5 minutes. I covered about 3/4 of a mile of river. I used a Beadheaded Prince nymph as a dropper and a rug-run king on top. (a secret fly that I tie just for that river) I suppose a Rio Grand king would work. Any way at leased I got a little fishing in this weekend anyway. Hers a couple pic's.
