How to make a Flaming Hook'r - flygoddess - 10-15-2008 ![]() HOOK: Straight Eye Streamer #4 THREAD: Black WEIGHT: 5 to 7 wraps of lead or lead substitute TAIL and BODY BACK: Burgundy with Black Tip Zonker Strip BODY: Crystal Red Chenille FLASH: 4 to 8 strands of Red Tinsel Flashabou COLLAR: Red Mallard, Guinea, or Marabou Feather 5 to 7 wraps of weight wire: ![]() Tie in Zonker strip at the bend of the hook leaving enough for a tail (and remember, you can always shorten the tail on the finished hook if needed) ![]() Tie in Chenille at bend of hook: ![]() Wrap Chenille up hook to short of the eye: ![]() Fold Zonker over chenille snug and tie off behind eye, but leave room for head. ![]() Tie in 2 to 4 strands per side of Flashabou. ![]() Prep your collar feather to be tied in by the tip: ![]() Wrap collar feather Softhackle style. ![]() Form head with thread and cement: ![]() [signature] Re: [flygoddess] How to make a Flaming Hook'r - macfly55 - 10-15-2008 cool.. but as usual.. couple ?'s on the flashabou.. are you tying that to the sides and then letting it "dangle" like legs?? if so.. how long should the flashabou be?? lastly.. on the softhackle style ? collar.. how many wraps before tying it off? oh.. and what would this fly be used for (what species and how).. MacFly [cool][/quote] You take 2 to 4 LONG strands of Flashabou (on the average they are 6" long) fold them in half and tie the fold at the head of the hook so the Flashabou goes down both sides. I trim them a little shorter than the length of the overall fly. You want them to flutter down the sides of the fly for an attractor. In the picture, you can see the feather before I prep it to tie it in. I have cleaned the shorter barbles and fluff. 3 to 5 wraps, or the whole feather shown. This fly can be used for any thing, Trout, Bass, Sunfish...I don't fish salt, but I would try it there. It is a streamer so fish close to bottom.
