I need a tying desk - dustponds10 - 12-07-2008 Does anyone know where I can find a nice fly tying desk? I am in Idaho but willing to travel to Utah for a nice desk. Please let me know with a pm or on here. Dustin [signature] Re: [dustponds10] I need a tying desk - Brook - 12-07-2008 Are you at all handy? It's simple enough to build your own. Many years ago, when the only tools I owned were a sabre saw and a drill, I built a tying desk. Less than a full sheet of plywood, it has five drawers for holding tools and materials, and the desktop itself, tailored to my exact needs. I'm still using it 30 years later. If I were to build a new one today, the only change I'd make is to have the desktop removable, so I could take it with when I'm on the road. If you don't have a workshop, no big deal. Most home-improvement centers will cut the wood to your measurements. After that, it's just a matter of screwing the parts together, and painting or staining it to your taste. You can probably build one, at today's prices, for less than fifty bucks. But here is one: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp;jsessionid=2H3OHWAWL1I41LAQBBJSCOVMCAEFIIWE?id=0011296316301a&type=product&cmCat=froogle&cm_ven=data_feed&cm_cat=froogle&cm_pla=0300601&cm_ite=0011296316301a&_requestid=115088 [signature] Re: [dustponds10] I need a tying desk - Dryrod - 12-08-2008 [center][font "Garamond"][#008000][size 4] ![]() [signature] Re: [Dryrod] I need a tying desk - dustponds10 - 12-08-2008 I am not at all handy, yeah sucks to be my wife. I ruin stuff so fast and it never comes out how I plan. any ways alot of great idea thank alot. I think what I am going to do is try to find some one that can build me a log desk with some other custom features. I know a guy here in my area that does these kinds of things so Ill test my luck that way. Thanks for the links and great ideas. I also have a small fly tying station on the table with the vise and storage for my tools etc.. its not fancy.. but it is functional.. Their advertising slogan: "We fix what your husband repaired." FFG: Was that photo comment directed at me? If so, I can't oblige. I don't own a digital camera, so can't post pix. But that's likely to change in the next few months, as I really need one for my webpage. When it does, I'll gladly post of shot of the tying desk. I DO have a camera, he, he, he I tie in the Garage now (since moving in with my dad) Not so bad, it does have a heater, but I prefer a little cool anyway. Quiet also Here is my desk: [inline "bench 2.jpg"] In the drawers are boxes for the flies and some books, plus the immediate material for the flies I am tying at the moment. The Tower is my hooks all labeled to what they are and beads and blades. A magnetic plate on the back wall for razor blades, needles and such. In the back corners are two speakers in which I hook up my Lap Top for a movie while I tie or to look look things up quick. The tower doesn't stay on the desk while I tie. [inline "bench 5.jpg"] [inline "bench 4.jpg"] I also have the foam spinning wheel for drying flies that need it like my Chironomids. I do allot of Fly Tying shows, plus take my kit on trips so I have become very mobil. Here is the tote I carry all my feathers, flash, dubbing, hair, etc all in special baggies so easy to find. [inline "bench 7.jpg"] [inline "bench 8.jpg"] The yellow strip in the middle is a push out drawer which I keep larger beads and cones in: [inline "bench 9.jpg"] Finally the vise (with back up behind) [inline "bench 10.jpg"] Just an old beat up computer desk[cool] [signature] Re: [flygoddess] I need a tying desk - macfly55 - 12-09-2008 awesome setup sis.. It is actually my first real tying station. At my house I tied on the kitchen table between meals[laugh] The Garage over there is not insulated and sits off the house so that wasn't going to work either[crazy] [signature] Re: [flygoddess] I need a tying desk - macfly55 - 12-09-2008 welcome sis.. now you have a cozy little nook where you can create to your hearts content.. :-).. all I know is that what you tye is awesome.. does the big guy have room in that garage for his rod making hobby?
