Tiny URL's - sinergy - 08-24-2009 Just starting twittering and hated pasting huge links to articles. Came across this site pretty cool site. If you have huge link you want to post, you can use the tiny url converter and they will convert your link into a short "tiny url" http://tinyurl.com/ [signature] Re: [sinergy] Tiny URL's - Kent - 08-25-2009 That is a great tool. [signature] Re: [kentofnsl] Tiny URL's - One_eyed_jack - 08-25-2009 Great tool until you get your first virus or spyware infection because you were pointed to a direct download link. [signature] Re: [One_eyed_jack] Tiny URL's - sinergy - 08-26-2009 Dont know if you ever used twitter but hundred of thousands people us tiny url on twitter. Im sure if it redirected you to a erroneous site it would have been found out by now. Also if you know anything about virus's you have to execute the the download before you system is infected just clicking a link does no infect your system with a virus. Lastly with a good anti-spyware software and a popup blocker you can screen spyware from your computer. [signature] Re: [sinergy] Tiny URL's - One_eyed_jack - 08-26-2009 And you are an expert? I know a lot about viruses and no, not all of them require you to click on anything. How about I post a tiny URL and you can see what happens... It was a PSA for everyone. TinyURL does not have control over what people redirect people to. Also there are a million different sites out there and tinyURL could care less what it is pointed to. Just a word of caution, you dont know what the URL is pointed to. Use extreme caution and know your source. I can post a link to anything right now from tinyURL and no one would know where it is going or what it is going to do... click it... [url "http://tinyurl.com/nlec8t"]http://tinyurl.com/nlec8t[/url] Now I am not saying it is not a great tool as some web addresses are insane, I am just saying trust who is posting or sending it or you may not like the results. [/quote] Actually I am [][][] I do network security for a fortune 500 company 15+ years in the business, a BA in computer science, CCIE, CCSP, MCSE, & ITEL Certified (I have more certs but those are just a few.) [quote One_eyed_jack] Just a word of caution, you dont know what the URL is pointed to. Use extreme caution and know your source. [/quote] Any boso with a a bit of computer knowledge can redirect an url. One example is to redirect the landing page to another site happens all the time dosent mean you have a virus. What paranoid universe do you live in ??? Name one virus that you dont have to execute before your system gets infected ??? There's a difference between spyware, malware & VIRUS's. Tiny URL has full control of were the url is being redirected what do you think they just put some random url in LOL the links are created from tinylink alias composed of six alpha or numeric characters attached to the TinyURL domain name. The tiny url generator coverts the links to alias thus giving you a shorter url. Do some research before you post if you knew anything about about the subject you would know the Twitter has invested 2 million dollars into shorting urls, Mozilla has plugin's for it and Google is in the process of developing there DNS system that shortens urls. Yes I'll give you the fact that its not full proof but if you know anything about hacking you would know there is a much simpler way of redirecting people to bogus sites. You must not have to spell very well to get a BA in computer science or all those certifications. WOW. You must have a secretary that spells check everything before it goes out of your office. Sorry to bust on you. [signature] Re: [BigBassaholic] Tiny URL's - sinergy - 08-26-2009 Sorry don't use bozo allot in my every day language but must be familiar with it Don't know if you've typed on a BB storm but not the easiest thing to do One question you say you have all the same certs were did you take your ccie ? [signature] Re: [sinergy] Tiny URL's - BigBassaholic - 08-26-2009 I have not tried typing on a BB and I have none of those certs that you have, just a high school graduate here. I didnt mean anything by my message just thought the spelling could have been better... But now I have a better understanding trying to do it with a blackberry...... see you on the water.............. [signature] Re: [sinergy] Tiny URL's - kochanut - 08-26-2009 cool, but nothing special until you get that CISSP, which is the most massive pain in the ass cert i have ever taken. edit the Infrastructure cert is what im going after next, and thats a nice one. edit again... the CCIE is where you build the network and Cisco jacks it up and you are timed to find the solution correct? i hope were not talking about two differnt things here.
