Southern California Saltwater Report 7/2-8 - JapanRon - 07-03-2003 Hi there guys Southern California Saltwater Report on July 2, 2003 (Wednesday) STARTING A NEW WEEK OF REPORTS TODAY. Way up north- Avila Fishing is slow or this time of season Up North- Channel Islands Seems like all the landings got out (Chris's, Virg's, and Patriot) and did pretty good. LA Area- Catalina Island Fishing was good at the island and the traffic was practically nothing. Water was heating up to 67 and the Calicos and barracuda were biting. A few WSB were boated. Further South No info.....anybody know of any recent trips? San Diego- Coronados Albacore are biting on the multi-day trips and the averages of fish per rod vary widely by landing. LA Local Most local boats got a mix of Calicos, Sand bass and a few barries. Of special note, the Redondo Special, and the Victory did well on the bass. SQUID IS NOW AVALIABLE AT THE LA HARBOR BAIT RECEIVER. GET IT WHILE YOU CAN. Up North- Channel Islands Rock fishing just fantastic for all three major landings. LA Area- Catalina Island Legacy got 40+ WSB Dreamer, Sea Hawk LXV did good as well as the Cat. Further South- Clemente No News San Diego- Coronado Local fishing varies with bass and barries putting out an average of about 5 fish per rod at most landings. Albacore fishing for the multi-days is fantastic to so so. What else is new! Local LA Boat averages varied from landing to landing. It seems like the areas fished have different fish every day. LA boats didn't do that good while MDR and a big jump to Newport and south did good on an fish per rod per boat count. MDR has got good anchovies and sardines. July 4th boat loads might be light! Twilight is great if the boat goes down by Disneyland and the fireworks! What is the name of that bridge and where is it? Thanks [signature] Re: [gvanzant] Southern California Saltwater Report 7/2-8 - JapanRon - 07-05-2003 Hi there gvanzant, Sorry about the confusion. The bridge I start at is at the junction of the San Gaberial River and PCH. You can't park at 'the hole' anymore but there is parking within 2 or 3 minutes. I then head down toward the ocean till I come to the first bridge, fishing all the way. Lots of interesting fishing. LA Area- Catalina Island Lots of overnight boats doing good on the WSB and YT. Calicos and barracuda doing from fantastic to so so. Further South ????????????? San Diego- Coronados Multi-day boats are getting the albies and the local boats are still hitting about 5 or 6 fish per rod average with some boats limiting on the bass. LA Local The loads were really light today and the Calicos and Sandies put out a bite that went from limits of 300 fish to 3 or 4 fish a rod. Few WSB. LA Area Catalina Island Counts on YT and WSB is not that high but Calico bass fishing is holding up. Further South Clemente San Clemente fishing is good for yellows and other fishies it's just I don't get many reports. Dreamer, Legacy and Phantom did good on the WSB and a few yellows. San Diego- Coronados 1 day trips weren't doing so hot but multi's were working the albies. Local fishing is holding at 3 to 4 fish per rod. LA Local Hit and miss fishing today mostly miss! Some big old 3/4 day boats had an average of 1 yes 1 fish per rod!!!! JapanRon [signature] Re: [JapanRon] Southern California Saltwater Report 7/2-8 - JapanRon - 07-07-2003 Hi there guys, Southern California Saltwater Report on July 6, 2003 (Sunday) Way Up North- Avila Good Salmon and Rockfishing for all Up North- Channel Islands Rockfishing doing good, few WSB but 200 barracuda count!!! LA Area- Catalina Island Dreamer, Legacy and Phantom did well. Calico bass still good for those that make the effort. YT sparce for the sporties!! Further South Fishing is good! I just don't know who and how many. San Diego- Coronado and Local Albies on multi-day trips good! Average fish per rod on local trips vary with the top being 10 fish per rod with a mixed bag. LA Local Average fish per rod was not that great varying from 1 to 4 or 5 excepting the landings down Dana's Wharf and Newport beach which did much better. I'd say the bass bite was down south today. Reporting Tomorrow! JapanRon [signature] Re: [JapanRon] Southern California Saltwater Report 7/2-8 - JapanRon - 07-09-2003 Hey there guys, Southern California Saltwater Report on July 8, 2003 (Tuesday) Way Up North-Avila A couple of salmon boats did OK along with rock cod counts. Up North- Channel Islands Passengers got fair results on a really mixed bag of rockfish and the usual suspects. LA Area The word is BASS. It looks like the Sand Bass run is on although the calico fishing is also really good. Good numbers on most boats on both species of bass. LIMITS LIMITS LIMITSS especially twilight!! Further South- San Clemente Good Calico and YT fishing San Diego- Coronados Lots of good fishing from Sand Bass to Albacore. LA Local Well it busted wide open today with a ton of boats getting limits. It didn't seem like which boat it was as long as it was south of Rocky Point. I wonder how this will effect the 3/4's that have been going to Catalina consistantly. I hope they let the 1/2 day guys do the meat fishing. Going out and will report on the Catalina trip that's being scheduled tomorrow. JapanRon [signature] |
