Kayak for small guy - apekzhrk - 03-24-2010 Hey guys I am a small guy (5'4'' 135lbs) and I am looking for a kayak for kayak fishing mostly saltwater but sometimes freshwater. Which kayak would you recommend? [signature] Re: [apekzhrk] Kayak for small guy - KayakFishingCls - 03-25-2010 A great kayak for saltwater is the Freedom Hawk 12 for a few reasons. In saltwater it is a huge advantage to be able to stand up without worring about a turn over. The Freedom 12 has aft outriggers that once deployed, make for a very stable standup fishing platform. Another advantage is that the outriggers are easily removable. This makes the yak much lighter to manage, I think around 30 lbs. or less. The outriggers really are very easy to take off and put on. Tracking is now a non-issue with the outriggers deployed because they are in-line with the center line of the hull. There is also a leaning post or bar that you can raise and lower. There is even a recessed area in the deck for your push pole. This and many other reasons, is why I invited Freedom Hawk to become the kayak sponsor to the Kayak Fishing ClassicS but that's another story. The short of it is If I didn't think it was the best all around yak for what we do, they wouldn't be a sponsor. I hope this helps and here's Freedom Hawks link [url "http://www.freedomhawkkayaks.com/"]http://www.FreedomHawkKayaks.com[/url] [signature] |
