Fishing around Sandy - shadowcaster - 04-02-2010 Hey yall! Hope it has been a good winter with plenty of tight lines! My buddy is flying out from Pennsylvania next week and will be visiting another friend at Alta Ski Resort for a few days. He wants to sneak away with me to do some fishing on the morning of April 10th. We won't have much time at all and my car is a piece of junk, so he is going to take the bus and meet me in Sandy. Any suggestions of some dynamite fishing to hit close to Sandy? Nothing crazy, I just want to get him into some consistent fish. Thanks! Mostly skinny fish 6 to maybe 15 inches if your lucky. Not too hard to catch even this time of year if you find an area with fish. Drive up or down the canyon if you don't see fish within 15 minutes to find a spot that has them. Given the recent snow I'd suggest starting at the mouth of Big Cottonwood across from that crazy concrete driveway to that new development. Start at the big pool below the metal foot bridge and work up about a hundred yards. If you aren't catching anything again drive up and hit a new section. Another close choice is Millcreek. It'll costs a few bucks and it can be OK but Big Cottonwood usually is better fishing. If you have several hours you could go hit American Fork. In Am. Fk. above Tibble Fork Reservoir and Millcreek this time of year you can get away from the traffic a lot more. If you want a chance at bigger fish and have time head up I-80 to the Weber. Probable could get to good fishing in about 40 minutes from the mouth of the canyons.
