Trout sex Characteristics - CptHook - 03-26-2011 I got a couple rainbow trout today that had the most apparent black striped gills of any I've seen. This one is a little over 17 inches, not husky. I assumed its a seasonal pattern on the males, just wondering if anyone knows characteristics for male or female trout. All I know is if there's eggs, its most likely a female and I've heard that hooked jaws indicate males..
