Is It Streamer Time? - Browntrout - 10-02-2011

On Friday, Sept. 30, I decided to go fishing. It had been almost
three months since I had walked a river. I wanted to throw some
streamers. But, the weather has been to warm. Lots of hatches
and hoppers. Against my my better judgement I went fishing.
It was a very slow day. Heavy moss and debris in the river.
Nymphing was slow. So, I switched to streamers and caught
nothing but weeds and one 9" brown. I decided to call it a
day---I already new the outcome before I went---but the fall
colors were beautiful.
On the way back to my car, I stopped to fish an area rarely
fished due to 20' cliffs on both sides of the river. On my second
cast with a Black Circus Peanut I hooked into a high flying 17"
Tiger Trout. The next cast was a 18" cutt and then another 18"
cutt and then a 18"brown. I hooked into fish number 7. It was
a cutt ---big and fat. I reached for my net but it was not there.
I must have not secured the net properly. Well I finally found a
small place to land the cutt. The Cutt was 21" long with a 14"
girth. WOW that was fun. I switch to a white Circus Peanut
and caught a 18 1/2" cutt. I tried a JJ Special and caught
one final brown going 18". Final tally in 2 hours---12 fish ----one 12" and the others 17" to 21" . It is amazing when a river lights up.
I believe streamer time is almost here.

That's a nice fat cutt. That kind of fast fishing is why I spend most of my time fishing areas that are rarely fished.

Wow that fish hasn't missed many meals, nice work.

I'm not familiar with a "circus peanut" what is it.

Here is a picture of a Circus Peanut. This is an articulated
pattern. Olive on certain days drives the fish nuts.
