We headed out to the buoy towards the Fort Lauderdale fishing grounds, which sitsin 120 ft. of water, 1.8 miles from shore on the edge of the drop off. We had two plainers down, one with a doublehook Bonito strip and a pink sea witch in front; the other with a double hookBonito strip and a black and blue sea witch in front. For surface baits we had 5 Bonito strips andtwo Ballyhoos. It did not take long forthe action to start. As I made the firstswing around the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, both plainer rods went down, producing twoKingfish both in the 15 lb class, followed by hot and heavy action on thesurface baits with five fish on at the same time. Having five fishing chairs in the cockpitmade it easier for the anglers to bring in their fish. With Tunas, Bonitos and Kingfish in the boat, the anglers requested some Mahi Mahi’s, so I went off shore from FortLauderdale and found a sargassum weed line with boards/bait fish in 800 ft. ofwater. After working the weed line for45 minutes, it did not produce any fish, so I headed back to one of theartificial wrecks that produced fish in Fort Lauderdale FL. As I approached the wreck, the plainer rodtripped. Jackson, our experienced mate, knew immediately that the fish was not on and reset the plainer again. This time it tripped and the fish wason. It’s a Sailfish!!!!!! He came leaping out of the water, as the sungleamed on his neon body and continued exiting the water. Lennyretrieved the line and brought the Sailfish to the side of the boat; Jackson brought theSailfish into the boat, pictures were taken and the Sailfish was released. With a total of 9 Kingfish, 4 Barracudas, and16 Bonitos, along with the released Sailfish and tuna, it was time to head backto the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316
