Whiting Schlappen - Browntrout - 08-17-2013 Do any tiers on this forum use Whiting Schlappen? If yes, do you like the Whiting quality better than Hareline Schlappen? Thanks. The Whiting schlappen is good for making long tails for big flies, but not very ideal for wrapping around a hook shank because the stems are really thick. I have settled on Spirit River schlappen and have been very happy with it. It doesn't look like there is very much in a package, but there are a LOT of feathers in those packs. They are all fairly consistent and worthy of wrapping around the shank. They also make the UV2 dyed schlappen that is really good too.
