snow on the Weeb - Lech456 - 11-21-2013
I snuck up the canyon this morning and fished right around the Peterson Stoddard exit off the highway. I only had about an hour on the water but didn't have any luck. I rigged up a scud with a zebra midge trailer. Does anyone have a suggestions on colors or patterns that they have had success with this time of year on the Weber? Anyway, catching sucked but fishing in a snowfall is a down right hoot! what a peacefull start to the day.

^ that's a good starting point. Also think this, it's getting colder there, think smaller, way smaller, around a 24 or 26 if your set on bugs. Streamers will also never let you down especially if the sun is out

got it. Thanks! I am surprised that streamers are effective this time of year. I will have to give that a try next time I am out. I guess I figured the fish would be less apt to chase something like that when its cold. are you dead drifting?

Well where I'm at right this second I'm still figuring things out. The trout here in Europe, I'm convinced, have never seen anything smaller than a 16. Any who when I fish the weber in the winter, I'll high stick a streamer when it's over cast, and swing it when the sun us out. Has a tendency to work

Winter is prime time for streamers on the Webe. Only during the short brown spawn do they work better.
Koch,
I remember you mentioned returning to Europe in other posts but don't recall where you went. Hopefully you're in or close to Bavaria so you can start to partake in some Weihnachtsbier that starts to flow this time of year. That way you won't get homesick for Utah - right[
]Most people have their favorites but it's hard to find a streamer that won't work if swung out along banks and holes during the winter months.

I'm in southern Bavaria right now, I have been fishing the streams and ponds in the Black Forest a lot lately
OT.. Over at Anglers den they have a streamer called a thin mint. It is my absolute go to streamer any where in UT. Stock up on various sizes

Good choice. Better than the "beer" at grocery store yesterday. The alcohol content is about 20% of that. My ancestors are originally from Bavaria, Pilzen Region of the Czech Republic plus a quarter Irish. It was all just safely stored grains (and potatoes) to help survive the winter [

The water was moving as well as it is anywhere that I could see. I ran up past morgan this evening with a buddy and it was slower there than where I was in peterson earlier this week. We had a good night by my standards so thanks to everyone for their input, although turns out my rotten luck has had more to do with technique than fly choice. One of the advantages of fishing with a friend I suppose.

Depends on how deep the pool or run us I'm fishing. I try to carry several spools with me, from floating and a sink tip, to an intermediate all the way to a type 7

Back in the Orvis days I sold many of the multi tip line systems to the river fishers.
They are great. The sink tips are 15' long, so in most cases perfect for the rivers here.
Plus only need ONE reel/spool. Change out is super easy.
Might have to look at ebay

Winter on the webe -
Rainbow Warriors and Zebra Midges will have you whitey whackin' all day.
Fish Streamers to catch big browns. I love fishing a Sex Dungeon, but in the winter sometimes I down size to a size 4 Black/Olive Wolly Bugger with a big head. Fish the deep holes and cover.
The Peterson/Stoddard Area has a few cutty's try Christmas Tree pattern with an olive scub/sow for these guys.
I like the area by the high school. I do pretty well with zebra midges and rainbow warriors for whiteys.
I never have any luck fishing up by Taggart in the winter, but I'm sure some people do.
