Fly Fishing - Boise_Boy - 07-15-2014
Hey guys, so I am very new to fly fishing I just bought my 5wt rod and reel. I know no one wants to give up their secret spot, but I really don't know any streams around boise where I have a chance to get into fish, i've tried the boise river and have had mild success, but I am looking for more of a smaller mountain stream or brook to try my luck on as I am an avid back packer, and have a hard time spotting fish on the bigger river. If anyone has some good trails with some cool streams and would be willing to share with me you can PM or comment, if not i'm sure ill find my way into some waters eventually was just hoping to cut the learning curve [

Most streams will have fish so you just need to start trying them. Couple ideas to get you going would be to hike down the NF of the Boise river canyon or the Crooked River trail. Good luck and let us know how you do.

I've caught fish in crooked river (really brushy and you wade it to fish it), elk creek, north fork of boise, and middle fork of boise. All are fun..

nf of boise river is a lot of fun with hoppers and elk hair caddis. Dont expect too many big fish but should catch a pile of them.

Nf Boise is always fun. Like mentioned not many big fish but you won't get bored fish all over usually not many fishermen. Also, last summer I hiked up into Jennie Lake Its up highway 21 past Idaho City. Only a 4 mile hike or so but there were some big Cutts up there. You could spend the weekend up there and fish Jennie lake one day and the NF of the boise the next.
