Traveling to Mt. Home - TheFishSlayer - 03-24-2015

Hi Guys, I will be at Mt. Home from the 25th -1st of April. Would it be worth it to bring some fishing gear? I have been up there before and driven around the base to CJ strike. I will have most of Friday-Monday off. Let me know. Feel free to PM me. I'm thinking about bringing my boat but most likely I won't.

I would. Fishing is pretty decent at CJ right now. You'd most likely catch a lot more fish from a boat, though.

Any tips on what to bring? I can't bring everything I have, I'm bringing the wife's car.

If you are fishing from the bank your options will be pretty limited. I haven't fished CJ in about 3 weeks, so I don't really know what's happening there, but I do know it should be good.

Perhaps a few slip bobbers rigged with crappie jigs. Worm on a small jig or crappie jigs could bring you a variety of fish. I've heard the SMB's are hitting good, but I don't have any good advice from the bank. I'd try hiking a bit to get to the steeper banks and try a variety of depths. If you have a pistol you might bring that just in case you find a rattler.

If you don't mind a ride, head south to the Duck Valley Indian Res. and fish Mt. View. They are picking up some nice fish up to 24" of late. It is an early-morning bite. I am heading down Friday morning, so if interested, I can shoot you more info at that time. By the way, it is close to 2 hrs. from Mt. Home. Mike

Bring your boat. Bring bass and crappie/perch gear. Both panfish and bass are on right now. My buddies caught a bunch of nice 6-10 pound catfish last weekend. The opportunities are nearly endless right now.

Unfortunately I won't be able to bring my boat up this time. I wish I could though. Thanks for the tips. I'll be trying to shore fish this weekend I guess.

Sounds like you need to invest in a float tube.[cool]

Hey something to do when you get home, pull the tube out and get it ready for your next out of state adventure.[Smile] When I traveled to different states due to work I carried a small tackle box and rod with me. Now I keep stuff at a hotel in Colorado.

I was at Cottonwood a few days ago and the crappie are not in yet.

Try the dike at Cove Arm. Heard they are catching crappie and perch there. It's a bit of a walk, though. Probably about 1/4 mile. Watch out for rattlesnakes if you decide to head out that way.

Another option is the beach near the dam. It is by the canal that runs just south of the North Park campgrounds. People have been catching perch and trout there.

Shoot I just saw this post. I wish I'd have seen it earlier. I am bored out of my mind up here.

thank you to everyone that offered advice. I went out to cottonwood this morning. Caught one decent smallie and 8 crappie. All in all a great day.
