WIFE'S TURKEY - PACKFAN - 04-13-2015 Yesterday was opening day for the wife's turkey hunt, we couldn't make it out in the morning due to her work schedule so we headed out about 5 P.M. drove up to our favorite little spot and set the ground blind up with our Primos B-Moble Tom and an Avian hen decoy. We called several times with no response so for the next hr. or so we sat in the blind talking about our up coming bear hunt in Canada. Glancing out of one of the side windows I noticed something moving thru the sage on a hill several hundred yards to our right. I picked up the binos and spotted a half dozen red heads working past us. I started calling on my Primos diaphragm call and got a response immediately. They stopped moving North and headed down the slope toward us. I would cluck and they would respond immediately. I told the wife I think they are all jakes so it's your call. She said if they come in she was going to take one. They came to within 50 yards and stopped, I hit my remote on my Tom decoy to start it moving and here they came on a dead run right up to the decoys. I wish I would have had our movie camera because it was comical to watch all the young toms walk around the big Tom decoy. Finally the wife picked out the largest and tipped him over, the rest of the jakes attacked him as he was flipping around on the ground, we got out of our blind and litterly had to run them off. I looked at my watch and it was 7:24. High fives and big ![]() THE 2ND AMENDMENT IS IN PLACE IN CASE THE POLITICIANS IGNORE THE OTHERS. Now if she can bust a nice bruin in Canada next month that would make a great start to our hunts this year. [signature] Re: [PACKFAN] WIFE'S TURKEY - fish-o-holic - 04-29-2015 AweSome bird. The wife and I have taken our share of mature toms and took our 1st jakes last year, we think they are better eating than the older birds. If I kill a mature bird, I make the whole thing into jerky. Wild birds make GREAT jerky.[ ![]() [signature] |
