Night ice fishing Pineview 1/15/2017 - 1/16/2017

Video of the ice fishing trip

I decided to head over to Pineview Reservoir to go after some crappie because I had a holiday off for MLK day. Got to Cemetery Point by 5:30 and was walking on the ice by 6:30pm. Took 2 hours of popping holes and fishing at each hole to see if I can find at least a small school of Crappie but everywhere I went most of my screen was marked by black small dots. Noticed that they're were tons of white insects swimming around that were causing the major black marking on the school. About 8:30 pm I landed my first Crappie of the night and just decided set up tent especially when it was getting a little chilly at that time. By 1 am I end up with 13 crappie landed with a few that I lost half way or didn't set the hook because of they're paper mouths. Talked to a few other groups they said they caught a few or felt the skunk. All crappie range from 9-11" that night. The best jigs were glow in the dark ratso or Northland perch glow in the dark spoon jog. Both jigs tipped with meal worms or super worm and a few times I put some smelly jelly liquid in Craw flavor.

Excellent, we are thinking about trying the Pineview night fishing either Friday or Saturday. We will be walking. I haven't been to Pineview ice fishing for a couple years and it was during the day. We typically would park in the parking lot at cemetery point and cross the road and walk down the hill. Is the trail in good shape or would going down the beach side be a better option. any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Try using a small tungsten jig (small!) with 1/2 a mealworm...Fish are tough to mark....they are hugging the bottom..if you want to drop quicker put a Kastmaster on and the small jig as a dropper..

We hit up Pineview last 2 nights. Fished North of cemetery in 50 FOW. each day pulled in a mixed bag for a total of 11 each day. They were all hanging out at the bottom.

I went on the north end and I'd recommend ice spikes especially while walking down or up hill. Hard pack and slippery in some areas.

I actually did try some tungsten and they didn't work as well I couldn't pick up a single bite from the bottom.
