Rockport - Not for the faint of heart
#1
2_pole_peter, LunkerFinderMD (he is a physician), BigRichAngler and I rented ourselves a yurt at Rockport and braved the elements for some ice fishin'. Those hooligans went down to the lake at midnight and caught themselves a nice 'bow (brrrrr!!!), but the next day we were out of luck. Started at 8:00 or so and we had 7 poles in the water for about 2 hours with only a nibble. I of course had on my rainbow PowerBait while the rest had a jig & a worm.

We didn't see much commotion around us from people catching fish but we were a ways off from the rest of the crowd. Besides, we were busy staying warm by playing duck-duck-goose, sumo wrestling, and practicing our pass blocking/pass rushing technique LOL. 2_pole_peter even wrote TRUMP in the snow LOL. Like what would an airplane passing over think about that? We're just down here trying to make Rockport great again? LOL.

Just talked to a fellow at work who said he has been slayin' the west side of the 'port with a wax worm, jig & a lil' PowerBait. Guess I'll head to the west next time, LOL.

On a side note, the yurt was decent for $94/night. It didn't hold much heat in, but we were fine in our sleeping bags and it was only a short walk down to the lake. The fellow who rents them out will take care of you, but don't use his wood! That stuff was a bugger to get burning. We used about a full case of lighter fluid and a phone book to get her going.

I sure hope my friends don't want to go ice fishin' again. I like to be able to feel my fingers and toes.

It's true - I was there. As a physician, I've seen a lot of blood and guts - but I didn't see any from the fish at Rockport because we couldn't land any! Those dadgum 'bows didn't want to bite for nothin' LOL.

Ice was about 3-5" thick near the marina/boat ramp. A few inches of snow on the ice as well. I was worried though, because there were anglers on snow machines out on the ice. With only 3" of ice in some places I thought to myself, "I'm off of work today, I don't want to save lives out here too if they fall in!" LOL. What do you do, though? Being a physician is a lifelong calling - It's more than a job, ya know?

Anyway, good luck y'all.
