Perching at Rockport 01-16-17
#1
Wiperslayer and I hit RP yesterday, we fished from 8am till 1pm. Edges were good and the ice was 8" where we fished and there was several inches of snow in most areas. We were only targeting perch on the bottom but there were plenty of trout that wanted to play as well. It was bitter cold in the morning with the wind blowing slightly, so I put up my tent, first time in 3 yrs. Catching was slow the first thing in the morning but improved to the point that we were able to to catch around 20 to 25, of those, only 15 came home. We also caught 15 trout, mainly bows but 4 were browns, including a nice one that went almost 22". After the fog lifted it warmed up and turned out to be a very nice day. We started off using small ice flies tipped with wax worms or meal worms but switched over to perch flesh. Strangely, the later it got the fish were not interested in perch and liked the wax worms better. Here are a few pics.

It appears your catching was much better than our a Echo. I ended up with 10 but half were pretty small.

Very nice. Three years ago I got a nice message of perch about that deep. Gonna try starvation for eyes and perch tomorrow morning. Still looking to score my first eye through the Ice. Echo sounds tempting as I heard an eye was almost landed there.

Not much, the first holes we drilled had some activity but they did not want to bite, the second set of holes had more activity and they were biting, so we stayed there the rest of the time, there was only 3' difference in depth. That is why I always tell folks to move if you don't catch fish in the first 30 mins.
