Fish Lake Tournament
#1
Wow don't know where to start. Started fishing at 8 a.m. with it snowing and blowing. Spent more time trying to hold the tent down on the ice. Did catch a few perch and 1 trout. The gusts of winds were terrible. We were just getting ready to take the shack down when a gust of wind parachuted my tent in the air. There was 9 anchors in the ice and 4 adults holding on to it. It launched all four of us ten feet from where we were standing. My friend bruised his ribs and my wife hurt her leg. Never experienced anything like this. I lost my tent and other items, but we all made it out ok. I lost $550 in gear. The tournament was canceled at 10. Was told there was over 30 shacks lost that day. The officials did a great job of getting everyone off the ice. The boys plowing the roads did a he'll of a job too. Thanks to all who made it possible for all to make it off the mountain safely. If any one finds a clam 6-8 person shack, please comment on my post. It was used 3 times. Would like to see if I could salvage anything.

Somebody is going to gather up some quality gear between now and spring! I hope people had identification on their gear!

I had some I.D. on some of mine. Hopefully it won't be gathered up by someone just looking to take advantage of everyone's loss.

I think the condition of many of those gathered up will prevent others from taking advantage.

personally, I have enough rags at home. I don't need to add more.

Hopefully those of you that lost tents can recover the pieces.

You are probably right PBH.

On a lighter note from the bad news. I had a foot long sandwich in one of the pockets of a tent that flew away. Still all wrapped up and untouched. Not long after the tent left I saw a guy walking back from that direction carrying what I'm pretty sure was my sandwich. I didn't say anything, he might have gotten hit by the fleeing tent and I figured if so the least I could do was feed him.

I'm sorry for all of the equipment damage and loss.

Still, I would have liked to have been there, but I had concerns that two wheel drive might be insufficient. Wow! That must have been quite a wind to rip anchored tents off of the ice, so it's fantastic there wasn't serious injury.

This subject inspired me to get these good ice fishing tent anchors. It looks like they go into the ice easy, so that's an important time saver. They're similar to the design of ice climbing anchors. I bought enough for each tie down which was all they had left.

Hopefully with this cold week we'll have a long ice fishing season.
