Surprise catches
#1
With the recent snow, driving up into the mountains was out of the question.

I was in Ogden on Friday, so a quick stop at 21st pond at twilight resulted in a...brown???

Today, the Jordan river would have to do. The suckers were all over today. Taking my jig with their mouths and fins..eventually, a white bass complied.

But the Jordan was about to serve up something rare indeed. A good hit resulted in a nasty battle with what I thought was going to be my biggest white bass yet...then I saw the dark colored figure appear with a red eye. SMALLIE!!!!

Released it so hopefully it gains a few inches...would like to catch her again with a fly rod.

Cool stuff Harlin. I've caught a couple smallies out of the Provo below D.C. But none out of the Jordan. Great catch!

I have, but it was tiny, maybe 6", right below the pump house outlet from UL. That's a good catch.

I'm not asking where on the Jordan you caught that, but where in the Jordan was that?!? Haha I was wondering though are there any specials regulations for that River? I have never really fished it because I'm unsure of where it holds fish. My work is 2 minutes away in sandy but I fish the pond next to it because I have never known much about it. Catching fish on my lunch break is a nice way to relax and those planters are a sure bet most days.

The bass move around, so its best to try different spots and move around if you're not catching them. But there are carp and suckers all over.

I got ya. I work next to it on 9800 s. I will have to hit it instead of the sandy community pond one of these times.

Did you say you were catching suckers? I used to use sucker meat for bait in Idaho and I would like to know a place for catching them quick. I know that you are not supposed to ask for fishing spots on this forum, but I thought maybe this one time would be permissible since they are not game fish.

Good fish! We have smallies in a few rivers back in AZ, but I have never caught a smallmouth in any of the streams around here.
