Crazy good Fish Lake Perch Tournament
#1
Crazy good fishing at Saturday's FL tournament.
Turned in my 75 Perch at 9:50 (thank you State and vendor donations for my prizes) and weeded through 16 trout to get to those 75 Perch. All caught in 16' water on ice flies tipped with Perch belly hanging under Swedish Pimple and Buckshot Rattlers.
After collecting my prizes I came back to where my Otter was SUPPOSED to be. Unfortunately the wind had ripped the straps between my ice anchors and the tub and was 200 yards away.
As it tumbled it threw out my prosthetic hand, Showdown, DeWalt drill and extra batteries,4"auger,heater,BlackBetty free fall/pole,all my tools,Cold Gear reel/ spare pole, my turkey leg/white Monster lunch, and all my tackle. After digging through the snow I was able to find everything except some tackle and a flashlight.
Amazingly, NO damage to my Otter thankfully.
I had camped there since weds night and even though the fresh snow and high winds presented some challenges I had a blast.
A huge thank you to the organizers of this tournament, the State and Feds for plowing, and Fish Lake Resorts.

Way to go Shane you perch master that's impressive to be a one man team and be the first to turn in 75 fish. I hope that all the gear that was lost is recovered and returned to the owners

Nice job Shane, glad you recovered your gear that would be a terrible loss of dollars in a nice set up like that. Any size in the perch or was it strictly a numbers contest? Congrats. J

Great job Shane, glad you were able to recover all your stuff and not have it all damaged. Many others weren't so lucky. We need to go fishing, have your people call my people.

Numbers game.
Out of my 75 Perch only 10% or so hit the 8" mark.
There is a very high population of stunted Perch at FL.
The catching is very easy at FL as long as you don't go past the weed beds.

I'm glad you got some fish on your first trip down to Fish Lake. I'm glad you only lost your sled. PBH is 100% right about Fish Lake on a nice day. It's a bit of heaven.

Gary, Shane just got out of surgery today and will be benched for appx. 2 months.
Last night he put his shelters and ice gear in storage, that sucked for him. I think I saw a little tear but he won't admit it. At least he got that 3 day camping trip in at Fish Lake for the tournament last weekend to tide him over.
He is already planning the same spring trip to Powell he invited you on last year and he is really hoping you say yes again!!! He is going to try to guilt Art in to going also.
The trip will be a few weeks later though due to a family trip commitment to the Grand Canyon.
He wants you to know he only has two more years to a full retirement and then he can hopefully become a M-F fisherman and mow the grass on Saturdays.

P.S. This is Blondie. I am "his people" for another day or two.
You do know who this is,right? Shane told me to add his favorite pic of me as a clue.
