Can an atv or side by side be taken on Fishlake? Is there to much snow for them? Or would only a snowmobile work

Was at fishlake this morning. Saw 3 atv's on the ice. The snow on the ice was frozen and they were able to stay on top. Saw snow machines as well. Not sure what tomorrow will be like, but good to go today. Good luck.

Fished Fish Lake on Saturday 28th. The temp when we left Salina was 6 deg. At the lake, 0800 it was 14 deg and when we left at noon above freezing. Day was blue sky with a few clouds and sunny most of the day. We took a tent but did not take the time to set it up. As PBH mentioned in another post, picking the day with decent weather to fish up there makes a lot of difference. I generally look for a day with inversion along the Wasatch front. That generally tells me it will be better up there and especially means there should be little wind.
Ice was 4-5" (out of Mackinaw) near the Bowry marina. Crusted snow on top - pretty easy walking even coming off with higher temps. We fished in 44 FOW and caught trout from top to bottom. Mostly small rainbows and some small splake. Did find 2 larger splake from the bottom that we invited home. Not spectacular, but pretty good as well. We did not target the perch - we already had enough cut bait (sucker) from a previous trip. Sorry for all those that fished the tournament the week before with opposite conditions. [signature]

Figured I did win the prize. Those suckers are the best bait I have found. [cool]

yep. Sucker is great bait. 1 piece of sucker will last a whole season!
I can't figure out why people still use anchovies at Powell. Those things are a mess, they stink, and they don't stay on your hook more than a few seconds. Replace the anchovy with a piece of sucker and you can catch 100 stripers on 1 piece of bait! What's that? chum you say? How silly -- stripers can legally be used for chum! It's one of those renewable resources! run out of chum or bait? Just catch another striper! [signature] |
