Went to Soldier Creek this a.m. arriving around 7:30 a.m. with temps of 3 degrees. Had my first skunk fishing Strawberry in 25 years. We fished everything from 14 to 46 FOW. Fished with both a camera and fish finder and only saw approximately 6 fish come through (all cutts) which had absolutely no interest in feeding. Never even had a nibble! Ended up fishing just north of the entrance of the Narrows hoping to possible find some kokes - NADA!
The ice is 12-inches thick with 10 - 12 inches of snow on top. Some sporadic areas of slush as we traveled from the Narrows to the Hwy 40 parking lot on the reservoir.
Saw a group fishing the Narrows & they were having a poor day as well.
Just a thought, with all of the snow the water is very dark. Skies were clear; however, the sunlight is not penetrating into the water. Not sure if the dark water had an impact on the bite or not? I have done OK in years past with this much snow on the ice surface.
