The weather has been beautiful down here in Hurricane, so I decided to slip out Sat. afternoon and go for my first bass of the 2017 season. Water temps were a chilly 45.7 degrees, air temps in the upper 50's, water clarity crystal (as always). Headed to my winter/early spring fishing grounds and started off with a jig...no luck for nearly 30 min, so I switched over to a 4" bluegill swimbait, and game on! Ended up with 15 boated, missed another 5 or 6. Fish were ice cold, but hitting HARD! Several of them had little bluegill in their mouths, so they were feeding down there. All in all, a great start to the 2017 season! Can't wait for continued warmer weather and warmer water!

Glad you got out and figured them out, it sounds like a cool but fun afternoon.

I'm waiting for ice to melt to get my first outing of 2017. Maybe I should move farther south[Tongue]

Thanks for the water temp update, the state parks site doesn't update it very often. Looks warmer than ice fishing i'd say.

Yeah...in the 35-40' range. Good luck, should be good with the warm weather we've been having the last few days!

I was there today. I'm a dumb Strawberry trout fisherman so the fish were safe. I'm trying to target Crappie with no luck. My total experience is reading Crappie books and watching youtube videos. I'm fishing out of a pontoon float tube witha 55lb thrust electric motor. I know they are suppose to be deep right now but if someone would point me in the right direction it would be appreciated.
