As of Wed this week
Yes there is ice. No access, the edges have melted. [signature]

sounds like you will need a boat to access, I was wondering about the ramp.

The only snow on the ramp at the DC marina is the remains of the snowbank blocking the ramp.
Frankly, a moderately sized 4WD truck could plow through it and launch a boat. There is about half a square mile of open water around the ramp. Most the lake was still capped when I drove by around noon. I'll be up there with my tube tomorrow... The boat is tempting but it may actually be snowing in the morning so I'll just tube it. Good to hear, going to be working hard to get the boat ready this weekend, bring on the soft water.

Looked at it this afternoon and the wind and rain has opened the area around the main ramp from Wallsberg bay out around to the sailboat beach all the way over to the far back on the west side and almost up to rainbow bay.
Then drove up to the Charlston ramp and the ice is starting to pile up on the shore and most of that ice was only 4-5 inches thick. Only thing out on the ice was about a dozen bald eagles scattered from the island up to the inlet. [signature]

I had a fantastic day up there despite the late start due to the canyon closing.
I finally drove around when I heard it was still closed at 9. Launched around 11 from the shore near the Island. Fished until 1:30. Caught 15. Had doubles twice. Two were 16+ inches. The rest 13"-ish planters. [reply][/reply]Really, really fun morning on the tube. I wasn't expecting the island area to be open, but to my surprise there was no ice anywhere and it was a beautiful morning up there. The only ice left on DC is near the dam, a Wallsburg, and there was some up near the inlet but it may have been gone by the time I left. [signature]

Thanks for the report. It sounds like you had fun in spite of the late start.
It's nice to see open water opportunities again.[ ![]() [signature]

Here are a couple pics from the trip.
The awesome morning launch spot (lake is about full already) And one of the larger rainbows of the day [signature]

Ran down today and floated on the toon for a few hours and soaked in the sun.
Other than a couple of patches of ice on the north side of the island the rest of the lake that I could see was wide open. I would bet that by next weekend it will be ice free and there was one boat out trolling when I arrived. Only had a couple of hits but was a good day to be out and about. [signature]

Thanks for the pictures. That is a healthy rainbow.
We might try up there next week. The island area has always been good for us too. We decided to head for Minersville in the morning instead of Deer Creek. It sounds like most of the ice, if not all of it, is gone there too. Thanks again for your report. [signature] |
