Fish Lake Tomorrow

Ok going to FL tomorrow morning. Leaving at 3am. Never fished there before so any tips would be appreciated. Even if you should see me on the ice stop by if you have hints or just wanna talk. Hopefully I can take the snow machine out.

Perch mostly don't wake up until close to first light, if that is your target.

It kinda is what I'm going for. I'm leaving from SLC and it may take a minute for me to unload my snow machine and equipment when I get there

Small ice flies just outside the weed line just off the bottom, you will get entertained by the perch. 10-15' down you will get entertained by small rainbows that will take the ice flies as well. I take chartreuse paddle Bugs, white paddle bugs, white tube jigs, orange, pink maniacs. I've had the perch slam 1.5" pink maniacs. Once you get a couple perch you'll have bait for the day. For bigger bow and splake you'll want to be about 40 fow a lot of times the are suspended 10-25 feet. You can catch small splake in close, just move out for size. I love fish lake, I have a cabin reserved for the 23rd I'm hoping, fingers crossed I still have ice for then. Good luck man post some pics if you get any.

The kid and I will be there tomorrow to Tuesday, hopefully the slush isn't to deep.for her.. hoping tonight and tomorrow some of the freezing will help.. targeting the bigger fish in the morning, focusing on perch mid-morning/afternoon to keep her entertained.. hoping some of the guys who went today will post how conditions are before we loose signal tomorrow.. depending what ur going for, for bows I have had more success on powerbait more than anything.. splakes, jigs.. mack's big tube jigs, grubs, spoons, lipless cranks.. hard to target the mack's without a fish finder/sonar to see if they are looking at the bait or not, perch just about anything little if u get over a nest.. we will be in a clam big foot xl2000 if u see just one out there.. swing by and say hi..

Fished there today. Parked at Joe's Bush and walked across the ice to the east side. Pretty good fishing for splake and rainbow - we don't target perch. Ice was 16-18" with no more than 3" of snow on top. Many places had only and inch or so of frozen slush, so really no problems walking. We didn't take the 4 wheeler, but kind of wished we had. That long walk to the east side would have been much quicker.
Red and white tube jigs or sweedish pimples tipped with sucker meat was our bait of choice, but tipping with meal worms worked also.
Weather was not too bad considering the advanced reports.
Did talk to a fisherman in Lakeside store - reported good success for perch on the south side, though gave only general location.

Fished it Saturday. Not many people which surprised me. Slush was about 1/2"-1" is all. Ice was still a solid 12"+. Fishing was good caught perch, splake, rainbows and even a chub.

Went across from the marina on a wheeler today there are deep slush pockets 6-8" deep. Some of the pockets were 20-80 yards long.Tough for a wheeler. If you are careful you can pick your way across and avoid the slush pockets. Snow machines did just fine. My wheeler is 4 wheel drive and it barely made it through them. If you follow old machine trails the slush was mostly frozen, but rough as heck on your sled especially when moving quick to keep your momentum. I parked my machine on solid ice and walked a good ways to avoid being stuck once it warmed in the afternoon. I left at first light, if i would have left later i could have seen further distances and picked a better route. Ice along the road side of the lake looked like it did not have as much slushy areas. Sounds like the ice is more solid towards Joe Bush area!!!

Ditto for my two tents as well. A red Eskimo quickfish 3 and a black Cabela's double wide.

We are planning to hit it on Monday the 20th. Hope I can catch a gold brick to make up for loosing those 2 tents. [] Mostly looking forward to trying out the new Fatfish. Maybe we'll be able to keep that one with the fishing party.

So Fishlake is one of the new areas that you can use corn for bait. I've tried it a couple of times with zero success. Anybody else had any luck with corn?

I don't see why using a vegetable would work when fishing for carnivores.

FWIW -- on 2/11 I took my daughter in fairly shallow on Fish Lake to try to get some perch. One of the people I was with happened to have some corn with him. I had left the mealworms back at the cabin. My wife headed back to get the mealworms. In the meantime we tried tipping her jig with corn. We had 0 bites on the corn. When the mealworms showed up we switched and immediately caught some perch.

Take that for whatever it means to you.

Heading for fish lake this weekend. More interested in trout and larger fish. Any recommendations on what side of lake to fish in (e.g. South, North, pull sled across lake to east side. Thanks.

The east side certainly receives less pressure. I would walk across and fish it, if that were an option.

One nice thing about the east side is that it drops off much quicker. The weed line ends much closer to the shoreline. This means you can fish in close to the weeds (more action) and fish in deeper water (40 - 60') at the same time - especially if you use two rods.

I like fishing over at the lava slide, or the spawning shoals, or in front of the no campfires sign.

Walking over there is certainly farther than it looks.

I like going to the east side - as PBH says, less crowded. It is farther than it looks but is closer if you start either at the south (Lakeside) parking or on the north at Joe's Bush.

I talked with some other fisherman and the people in the cabin next to us, and both parties said they did better on the north end for trout.. the one group said they went farther down the north end past the gate, which the main road wasn't plowed to well sunday to Tuesday, but they had used a 4-wheeler.. we definitely did better when we went away from others and away from the grid of holes already existing.. didn't really matter what we used for jigs or powerbait.. used wax worms, mealworms, worms, and sucker meat.. hits and catches on all..

Thanks for the info! We went on the south side as they said the ice was better. It was 14-16 inches thick everywhere we went.

Tried to make it to the east side but pooped out pulling the sled by hand in the middle. Did pretty good on trout, nothing bigger.

We came back in closer to the boat ramp and did even better on the trout. Most were down 15-20 feet and seemed to really like the green paddlebugs with corn.
