I'm nuts, but had an idea that we may not be meeting the wants of all of our board members by only having the catfish contest during the summer months. So I wondered if there may be an interest in a new contest that will be very similar to the ice challenge contest. That means there will be five categories of fish, with individual winners in each bracket, and then an overall winner that does best with a score from all five brackets... In this contest all legal fishing methods would be acceptable and you would be able to keep your highest scoring fish of each type... My goal with this contest is to branch out your experience to try to catch lots of different types of fish over the summer... More details will follow if we find sufficient interest and we'll try doing the free entry thing again... Let me know what you think??? J

I love the idea. The ice fishing contest has been a blast. It pushed me to try new waters and chase new species. I had never fished Pineview or Fishlake till this year and ended up catching my first crappie through the ice and catching my first ever splake. It is fun checking species off on the contest list. I am not even close to winning the event but did get lucky enough to get a random prize. Just adds another element of fun and motivation to get out.

Thanks for the support guys, I was the same way with the ice fishing challenge, it was a blast trying to figure out where to be to catch the right fish at the right time, unfortunately I ran out of ice before I ran out of species that I needed, but it was dang fun like you say checking off species... Not that I need a contest to do that, but it helps me add self motivation to try something new... Otherwise I'm sometimes content to stick with the same old slimmer pond because it's consistent... I like the idea of trying to run a straight flush of one fish of all species on the board, but it would be pretty tough for me to do in a summer when I'm still farming... Looks like we are getting interest, but I'd like to see at least 30 for sure before I go to work setting things up.. Thanks all... Jeff

I know a lot of our members like more than catfish so I thought this may be a fun thing for everybody. Plus if you like one thing like trout you can concentrate on that category you don't have to do the decathlon. May take us a season to work out the kinks but I think it has some good potential. Is there an "other" category again, will it include catfish? Just wondering how that would work in conjuction with the catfish contest.

Yes there will be an other category and catfish, but it's only one of the options in that category and a 30" cat might get beat by a 36" carp. I think we ought to allow the same fish to be entered in both contests as long as you have pictures with the correct placards. I'll try to cover this in the rules. We are getting close to enough interest to make this a go. Anyway more later. J

I know what you mean about this possibly being too much demand on your schedule... That's why it's nice to have it over a long run so you don't have to dedicate your time to it, just do it as part of your regular fun schedule and see how it turns out.. I know I have a hard time not thinking about it and trying to raise my score, but I'm a little addicted to fishing so it feeds my habit... Anyway I hope this will be fun for you... Sounds like a great idea, I thought we'd start from the ice challenge and rewrite to soft water rules.... If we see another 7-8 choose will sign up I'll pull the list and put it out for comments... but I think we need to make sure we have at least 25 for sures... Most contests we only get half of the sign ups that enter fish and stay active with it, so we need a fair group to make it worth the effort to put together.. but I think we'll get that many... When I get a minute I'll try and put something together... If you have ideas of what you'd like to see in the contest, please suggest them here and I'll try and plow them into the rules... BTW I like to plagiarize old rules to make my job easier, so that's why I'll start from the ice challenge... Later J
