In case you have missed it, the big catfish contest begins today. So team south here's your chance to race ahead, seems a lot of the northern waters have refrozen. If you haven't signed up and would like to, please let me know and I'll get ya on the list. I think we have 46 signed up as of this morning a few less than the last two years but it's also early. Good luck to everyone, let's have some fun and enjoy this season. Remember a prize is also passed on from year to year of the smallest cat caught so measure that one too. Let me know if you have any questions. Later J

Thanks Lynn, and the first performance prize is now out there.... Dang that one will be tough to get, but a great prize, thanks for providing that... very useful for the catter's... now if we could get Okuma to pony up one of those fancy catfish reels we could have the ultimate set up for the season... Anyone know somebody at Okuma??? Thanks Lynn... Later J

Hey BLK, I'm also looking for that elusive 30"er. Came close a few times, but still gotta get in the 30 Club.

[#0000FF]Hey, HGS, talk your way onto BLKs boat. He knows where the big ones hang out, even if he can't catch them. The one in my avatar pic came from a "guided" trip with BLK.
If you do bring in a big one, be prepared for a lot of whimpering and whining...and don't let him net it for you. Might get knocked off before you get it in the boat.

Lava -- This is the year for sure. Sounds like you guys should be fishing in your roads and yards with all the flooding you have been getting. I'll be watching for your 30+er.
And... pay no attention to TD's rantings. I distinctly remember the trip he is talking about. Ain't nothin' lower than some "dude" who will bum a ride in your boat and then proceed to out fish ya. I don't remember any "whining and whimpering" but I do remember bragging and gloating without end. Next time I won't give him the best side of the boat.
Looks like a couple of good weather days coming up. I plan to get out on UL if I can get to my boat. I have it sheltered behind my house but lots of snow to drive thru to get it out. I'll use my wheeler and blade to clear a path. Watch for a 30 incher posted this week.
The best is coming.

Well I would indeed be honored to fish with BLK finally, and you again, Pat, if he has room for the both of us.
If I got lucky enough to hook into a 30+, it would be icing on the cake. (Even if I accidentally got knocked out of the boat).
New rules state even though I'm on the good side of the force (Team North), one of my three can be from foreign waters down yonder. But I'd have a hard time calling UL 'foreign' since I grew up in that neck of the woods. Been a long time for sure.
I could stand to learn a thing or two from you two hoodlums. Let's plan on a cat-trip @ UL soon.
btw, what did that nice channel in your avatar measure?

Why are you guys setting your standards so low? My goal is 36".

Lava-- Anytime... like maybe after the water hits the mid-60 degree temp and the cats are in the lovin' mood. Not sure I could cope with you and TD in the boat at the same time. If we limited TD to a single ice fishing pole and had him provide the bait and, of course, a few special lures... maybe we could work something out. I'm game.
Ice sled-- 30 inches is the first week goal -- then the goal becomes 36 inches or better.
Looking for a good year with lots of water.
Can't wait.

[#0000FF]Yeah, it would be good to fish with ya again. Last time was on Mantua...in your neighborhood. Next time we gotta get you down here...to say hi to lady Timp.
The fish in the Avatar was 29.5". Would have been over 30 if BLK wasn't jamming it up against the front of the bump board so hard.
The cat in this pic was caught early in March a few years ago. It was almost 32".

Heck maybe we can all get together to see what kind of trouble we can cause.
(I get first dibs on TD's jigs!)

Wasn't that you or your buddy that caught the current one? You should know how to do it. Hope I can find some better ones this year. We're going to have to do better on Cutler this year. I think the lower bear really saved us last year. Well good luck I hope you find him. Later Jeff
