Strawberry / Renegade Bay
#1
Drove to Strawberry (along with 1/2 of Salt Lake Residents). Arrived at 7:30 a.m. The marina parking lot was packed. people everywhere. We left Salt Lake City at 6:15 a.m. and the Temperature was 53. The temperature at the marina was 1. Parked the truck, unloaded and rode the snowmobile across the bay to Renegade. Jakes and everything within walking distance of the marina was packed with fishermen, scouts, snowmobilers, tubers, and site seers. I counted 5 other groups at Renegade. Most were located at the far North end. We like down by the ramp. Had the area to ourselves. No tracks leading to that area, so we blazed our own thru the snow. Snow was 12 to 14 inches deep in that area. Passed an ATV burried in the snow along the way. (probably still there tonight) Arrived at the designated spot and unloaded. The auger would not turn. Guess it was too cold. (ran good when I got home). I always carry a hand auger, so we dug thru the snow down to the ice and hand drilled a couple of holes. Forgot what a workout that can be. The ice was in excess of 30 inches, close to 36. At 63 years of age, I felt every inch. We finally got our lines in the water at 9:50 a.m. I ended up catching 11 by 1 p.m., my son ended up with 0. We fished in 12 and 20 feet of water. I caught all mine suspended at 12 feet in the 20 ft hole, those on the bottom would not bite. (where my son fished) Caught 1 large bow and the rest cuts. The weather was a little overcast when we arrived, but was a beautiful clear sky when we left. I got sun burned on my face. What a great day!!!

Sounds like you had a decent day Kevin. Your son must be a slow learner.

Not slow... just didn't fish it correctly. Used the wrong bait and plastic and fished on the bottom. I made the same error the last time I went over to Renegade a month ago. I took a neighbor. He fished at 10 ft and I sat near the bottom waiting for a "lurker" to swim by so I could reel up to him. They just didn't come. My neighbor had 7 before I caught my first.

Hey that's OUR tent in the first picture. What a great day. We were the first ones down there that morning. Got there at first light. First 2 minutes of the day had 2 on the ice. Was fairly consistent until around 10 and couldn't buy a bite so that was us climbing the hills above the tent on snowmobiles.

We were one of the groups in the bay that day, and that was our wheeler hahahaha. The wheeler was fine on the snowmobile trails but as soon as we left the trail it was slow going so we left it and made a couple trips with the snowmobile. It was pretty consistent fishing till about noon then just shut off til about 3. We usually fish straight East of you but we wanted to try a new spot. I can't believe how many groups there were in the bay that day, its usually only 2 or 3 when we have fished there before.

Bull... & Koke... I was surprised to see as many as there were in the bay. Often we are the only ones there, but even so, I think I counted maybe 5 groups. Long distances between groups. I generally get over there several times during the season. Only made it twice this year. Seems like the weekends I could go, it was storming and I am a fair weather fisher anymore. I may try it again the Saturday after next. My wife will be out of town so I will be batching it. Where we were, the fishing was pretty consistent. We didn't get started until 10 a.m. and quit at a few minutes after 1 p.m.
