Greetings from cascade Lake
#1
Wife and I brought our 10 year old granddaughter with us to Cascade Lake this week. Hoping she could catch some of those jumbo perch Cascade is famous for. It's a little windy and rough, but we're finding enough perch to keep us happy. Caught 15 this morning, all between 12 and 14". None of the bigger jumbos yet, but lots of 14 inchers. Hoping to get a couple over 15" before we. Leave on Saturday.

Can't get the pictures off my cell phone right now so I will attach them after we get back home. Water temp is 68 F and most of the perch were filled with fresh water snails. Maybe that's what makes them grow so large? true blue

I've fished Cascade twice during June and I found the larger perch tended to have a somewhat "muddy" flavor I didn't taste when I ate the fish I caught during our February ice fishing trip.

I'd be interested to hear from you about the table quality of the perch you catch this week with the warmer water temps and a different diet. I think the larger perch eat mostly young of the year perch in the winter and that could explain the taste difference. I found lots of snails in the perch I caught during my two June trips.

Attached are some pictures of perch we caught at Cascade Lake last week. Cascade is still producing lots of jumbos as you can see from the pictures. We caught many 14 inchers and few under 12". The water north of the island was crystal clear which was surprising because of the incoming runoff water up there. The water south of the island became progressively more cloudy the further we went, probably due to wave action, but it was never "muddy". Caught two nice stringers of perch just off the weed line on the west side about mid lake. Fishing was not fast, but rather slow and steady. Also caught some really strong rainbows that spent most of the time in the air. What jumpers!
For H2O ... we had a perch fry using my special crunchy batter and there was no hint of muddy taste. The perch were fabulous!!! Shared them with neighbors who didn't like fish ... now they have a new prospective.
Going back in ice season ... cant wait. Hoping many of you will get the opportunity to spend some time at this truly great perch fishery and experience the excitement of catching 14 and 15" yellow perch. Here's the pictures ... Trueblue
