Pig on a kayak 7/9
#1
Fished Porcupine today with hope that even with the hot weather the Koke bite would be as hot as last week. I had the kayak on the water around 7:00 and dropped the downrigger to 28' as soon as I could. Within 5 min. fish in the boat. The hits continued pretty good for the next hour or so until the overcast changed to sunshine.
When the sun came out I tried the deeper schools and caught a few but the shallower schools seemed to be more aggressive. For me anyway. I did long line another rod with 1oz. weight early set back 100' and caught 2 kokes on it and later changed to 2 oz and 150' back and caught another. Ended up with a limit averaging 12" with the biggest about 14" and smallest about 10".
The combo for me today was a pink sling blade wedding ring from 28'-35'. But keep in mind in a kayak I only have one downrigger so trying different set ups can be a challenge, if I find something that works I usually stick with it till it stops.
There were not many boats fishing today but I did see a Lund having some pretty good success and another kayaker with a nice rainbow
