Strawberry rainbows
#1
I know Kokanee are the rave at strawberry, but I'm headed up on Monday in my tube, looking for rainbows, I usually fish renegade, just checking to see how it has been or what to expect. Looking forward to getting on my favorite pond thanks in advance.

On that note, why do Kokanee seem to be the rave right now? More so than any other year I can remember? Strawberry has had tons of Kokanee for years. Why the sudden increase in Kokanee excitement? Personally I'm not a huge fan of trolling. Love fishing with a rod in my hand and vertical jigging and setting the hook myself.

We caught a couple decent rainbows today over in the Meadows area. There were a lot of boats fishing for them so I assume the fishing was pretty good. We were actually targeting kokanee. I think the increase in interest is because there is a lot more information available and people are starting to be consistently successful. Plus the state has put a lot more fish in Strawberry over the last few years. I too like the feel of a hook set but pound-for-pound the fight of the kokanee is something else. Two weeks ago 75% of the fish we caught came out of the water. They are so much fun to catch and, oh yeah, they are delicious![Wink]

I would love to go after the kokes don't get me wrong but I'll be on my pontoon (personal). And don't have the range to get to them, plus I do enjoy eating rainbows

I fished Renegade a couple of weeks ago from my float tube from about 5 PM until dark. I usually do really well there and catch quite a few rainbows with the cutthroats. I only managed to catch two cutthroats and no rainbows.
