Decided to make one more effort at poaching a big cat out of BLK's home water. [
] Caught 5 good size cats, but only one even close to a score bump. Launched from LB just at first light, and was out on the area between the Flats and the Springs by 6:25 A.M. Barely had my anchor down and 2 lines in the water and first hit at 6:35. Was trying several different baits this morning as I was out of white bass. First Cat hit a 2" Pinched Gulp Worm, 14 minutes later, second Cat hit a Mussel (haven't had any luck with them at Willard this year so far, so thought, what the heck). 7:23 A.M. Cat # 3 hit on a nitecrawler .
Then the bite just seemed to shut down. Took a run out to Bird Island. Wind was coming up just a bit, and was keeping bugs away. (Bugs out of LB this morning were worse than I've ever seen, even at Willard)
Sat over a spot just on the north west edge of the island and for about an hour, the sonar painted fish like bugs on a bumper, but not one single bite.[:/]
Pulled up anchor and headed back to the Flats. Again, barely set up and Cat #4 hit another nitecrawler. 31 minutes later, hooked up one of BLK's ugly, spawn abused male cat, with some scrapes and a bad attitude, but not the 36 incher hoped for. Gave me fits trying to get him to pose pretty for the contest photo.
I finally got one photo I think shows him at 25 inches. Not a huge bump, but I'll take the 1/2 inch (that is if that tough contest judge can see it).
The good effect breeze died down, it got hot and buggy again, and I was on my last 2 worms, so called it a day and packed up. Just in time it turned out. 2 rowdy PWC were heading out as I was heading in.
