How to Fish Willard From Shore?
#1
Hey everyone - new here...

I'm trying to take my son (13 yrs old) fishing this weekend - he loves to fish and we've fished all over Utah and the states... We've caught catfish and bass and striped bass in the southern states... bluefish in Rhode Island... sand bass and calico and various other fish in Cali... and quite a few fish in the Rocky Mountain areas...

But, we've never fished Willard. No boat, but he saw some posts about Wipers and boils and got excited...

Any tips, tricks, places to go to get into a few wipers for me and my son? It's for our annual birthday fishing trip, so I'd like to be able have a good experience...

Any help would be appreciated.

[#0000FF]Welcome aboard.

No guarantees anywhere on Willard...at any time. The fish move around a lot. You gotta be both good and lucky to set up in the right spot and find the fish there and active. But there are a few spots where the shorebound anglers can usually hope to get some kind of action.

I am attaching a couple of writeups that should help you find a spot and to know a bit more about the fish and their preferences. There are not many really wide open boils happening, but you always have a chance to see them...even fairly close to shore at times.

A lot of wiper fans fish them with mussels...the same kind you used for surf fishing in California. But if you want to prospect a larger area and have a better chance at connecting with boiling fish you should take some silver Kastmasters...from 1/4 oz. to 1/2 oz. Some lipless rattling crankbaits (RatLTraps) are good at times too...in black or blue back with chrome sides.

Good luck. Hope the weather and Willard treat you well.
