Huntington North - Finally caught something
#1
I decided to give HN another try. My last four trips over there have produced nothing but a nasty smell. This trip was nothing to write home about but at least I got the skunk off my back.

I fished from 7:30 until 1:30 in my tube. I was using the usual sinking line and size 6-8 leech patterns. The best was a size 6 bead head (green) olive leech. Everything I caught was while I was stripping the line in from the bottom in 12' - 30' of water. I picked up a few green sunfish/bluegill, largemouth bass, and one wiper. All of the bluegill/sunfish and the largemouth were between 6" - 8" long[:/]. The wiper was only 14" but felt good after all the puny panfish.

The water temperature was 63-64 degrees and the visibility in the water of about 8'. The reservoir is 84% full and dropping slowly.

There were a couple of boats on the water and a few shore anglers but not much action.

The sky got dark and I decided it was time to give up and go home. I have had a hard time this year with the wipers but I'll keep trying.

[#0000FF]Sounds like you did better than your last couple of trips on that pond. Good work.

By the way, both of the sunfish in your pics are bluegills.

Thanks for the report and pics. Has the water temp dropped since your last trip there? Do you know what the elevation is at that lake? I'm guessing it is a few thousand feet below Scofield[:/]?

Thanks, Pat.

You know I have a hard time telling the two apart. I did catch some green sunfish too, just never took there picture.

On July 20th the water temperature was 70-74 degrees so it's cooled down a bit.

The elevation at Huntington North is just over 5,800' and Scofield is just over 7,600'

Thanks for the info, maybe that drop in temp is what is getting them going. Hopefully the catching picks up like that at other lakes and it's the start of the Fall bite.
