Did you make it down to the opener, if so, how did you do?

We made it down, but couldn't afford to fish the tournament. We did pretty good Friday fishing the back of lake fork in the morning using poppers. Went down to iceberg and too crowded to fish it. Slick Rock had a bunch of smallies and gills hitting tubes and cranks we finished off in Bullfrog bay across from the marina. Caught a bunch of largies and a few bigger smallies on topwater fishing the tammies. Saturday was a bust, so we packed it in and headed home.

That looks like a good time. I love Lake Powell. I noticed you are in Viper Coral. Is that the one that was on KSL a few months back from Grantsville? I have a Coral also.

No, I bought this a year ago up in Duchesne. I love this boat, even if I had to rebuild the Powerhead a few months after I bought it. The 225 is a little small, but it still runs about 55mph. Is your Coral a 202?
Powell is one of my favorite spots to go, especially in the winter. We make 5-10 trips from Nov - Feb targeting the stripers up by the horn. I try and make at least 5 trips from Mar-April and a few more times in Oct. but those are targeting the bass, crappie, and walleye. Fun place for sure, see something new every time we go! [signature]

That shad is HUGE! I've seen schools like that down there go zippin' by in the shallows. My Coral is a 202, I put a new 225 Pro XS and a 10" Atlas on it last year and sold the 200 that was on it. I'm still trying to get it dialed in but elevation is a killer. Best prop I have found so far is 23 pitch Trophy Plus. 59 GPS up at Starvation, in Texas it really screams at the low elevation.
It's nice to see another Coral out there, there weren't very many made and they are great boats. A bass boat with a full windshield, how can you go wrong? There is a guy in Crivitz, WI that bought the molds and is making Viper boats again but, IMO, the wraps are terrible and they made some weird changes to the layout on the top cap. [signature] |
